Preserved flavor and enhanced taste can be reached through the use of food additives. By adding certain chemicals to foods, they can stay fresh or boost their colour, flavor and texture.

A foods structure and consistency can be held by the use of stabilizers. An example of using a stabilizer in foods would be to help prevent oil and water emulsions from separating in products such as salad dressings.

The idea of using additives and stabilizers to preserve food has been around for hundreds of years; people have forever needed to preserve their food. Pickling, salting, adding sulfur dioxide are a few examples of how we have preserved our food throughout history. These techniques would be of good use during a harvesting season before the winter season hit.
